Reflective Analysis Report - Management Assignment

INTRODUCTION

The Collins English Language Dictionary has several definitions of reflection, among which is: “situation or event which has effect of making people aware of a particular aspect of something or someone”.

This definition gives me literal understanding that in order for reflection to exist there must have been an occurrence, in other words, experience. This had me arrive at a personal conclusion that reflection can be referred to as a collection of memories of a particular past or series of events with a view of improvement on the present.

According to Kolb (1984), the term reflection is essential to the process of converting experience into learning. This illustrates the fact that experience is of a major significance in learning process. It can be evaluated, analysed and synthesised.

All these encompasses the process of reflection, for the purpose of judging ones individual actions or inactions through objective reasoning, thereby creating an opportunity to learn from it and make better decisions for the future.

Boyd and Fales (1983) examines the process of reflection as the main difference, if a person repeats same experience continuously on the way to achieving excellence in one behaviour or be knowledgeable from experience in such a way that he or she is positively changed. This is likeable to taking a clue from the past.

In the opinion of Mathews (2007, p 14) “reflection is a technique for turning experience into learning or a way for individuals to become self reliant in problem solving”.

The concept of diarising past events and employing self- appraisals enables individuals to have a better understanding of how to tackle problems independently in more efficient ways.

From my own perspective, I believe that the importance of experience cannot be overemphasized in a learning process. And as such, this reflective analysis report comprises of the personal and group experiences I underwent during the process of writing the Applied Management Project (AMP).

RECOLLECTION OF EXPERIENCE

In order to prepare AMP project our university arranges 5 day seminar began from 9th June till 14th of June 2009.The reason why our university arranges this five day work shop is so that we can easily cope with our final project. All of the student were informed to attend this five days seminar, and they announce it as a compulsory for every student to attend the whole lecture. University management divides us in three groups that was cohort A,B,C.The first day session was comprised of hundreds of student and moreover it was a combine session that includes whole Msc departments. The first day combined session was about 7 hours that seems to be very lengthy and tough but it was very well organized and manage by our moderators.

Firstly they brief us in detail about the applied management project what all contents our how to right introduction, how to write the methodology and the most important thing that prove to be very beneficial for me was how to search the related articles and how to implement in order to make your dissertation more effective. There was an other session about plagiarism. Plagiarism is very sensitive issue. Our university moderators brief us how to remain safe from Plagiarism. There was also a detail lecture about reflective report that was also very informative and constructive.

Then after that session our moderator advices all of the students of same program should sit on same side and after that they said to the students to form a group of eight to ten students before allotting the topic. This time was very crucial for all of the students, I was also very conscious in forming a group I want to stay with my friends because I know how to coordinate with each other and so you can also contribute and coordinate in a positive way with each by sharing ideas, information, knowledge and your experiences. But I was surprised by the behavior of some of my old group members they actually introduces some new faces to me. I requested them not to include in the group because it's a very big and important project for all of us and I also suggest them some students that were more serious about the project, but I failed to convince them at last me and three other friends form another group.

The topic assign to our group was very interesting; a friend of mine from international marketing was saying that I am very lucky to have that topic because there is lot of information available on globalization. I was very pleased to have that topic because as far as my knowledge is concern Globalization is fairly important topic and lot of current famous analysts are working on the impacts of globalization.

At the end of the first day of lecture our supervisor advices all of the students to come up with some research related to their topic so that students have a rough idea about their topic.

In the second day of seminar all of the classes were divides according to their courses my class was placed in (Cohort A)at 9.30. The main aim of university is to aware students how to work in together as a group and what aspects need to be discuss and how to share your ideas with each other while working in as a group member. On the second day of class I feel a difference in the student approach towards thesis. Each and every student carries some kind of notes and articles with them that also motivates me a lot to put my more effort in it. That same exercise has been placed in other three classes. University also arranged 3 to 4 specialists in each class to assist students.

As soon as the class begin I remember the current problem that we are facing regarding the thesis. My friend Christoff raises a question that what our topic is all about few of students from our group start laughing on the question. I remember his words that it's a very nice question. And he explain it in detail. Next I ask him how to reference the quotes or lines. Further some basic question arises and replied by them. All of the professors were very polite and were willing to help out the students. I ask different professors about how to approach on the particular topic what parameters should be used in order to focus on thesis, they explain that in writing a report firstly we have to focus on different perspective. We have to locate those research material that would support our report. For example my group topic is to write a report on how globalization impacts on marketing strategy and we also need to explain whether it is good or not for today's economy. he said there is not one way of writing a report but it is better to restrict your self with the topic, at that time I was very tensed about the relevant data that can support my findings and analysis on topic I ask business school staff that from where I should start my research work, they advice me not to prefer those articles that were published 5 years later because as far as globalization is concern its impacts are now totally change on current marketing strategy.

One thing that was actually boosting me and sometime makes me tense is that after these five days of thesis class I would never be able to consult with my teacher about that project report and for this fact makes me more conscious because in these five days I have to know more and more about those things that are required and important to write a report.

At the end of the class while going back to home I start planning in my mind how to work on thesis I went back to home start working on the searching of related articles I went to the university digital library but I cannot access to the different articles search engine I remain tense throughout the day. Next day when I discuss that problem with my group one of my friend told me that in the library session they would explain us how to search articles online and how to locate related books in the library. All of my ambiguities disappears when in the start of library session...explain us how to search articles and how to locate your desire work. There is no doubt that after this lecture I feel so much relax and confident that now I can easily approach towards my thesis.

Final day of class was one of the memorable day of my university life because that was also last day in university. Me and my fellow group members were very confident about our thesis because we feel that we have done with all basic lecture that is required for a complete thesis. We had a lecture on how to write a report and soon after this we also have a lecture on how to avoid plagiarism. They also taught us how to give reference to some quotation in order to avoid plagiarism. soon after this they give us a time to ask question, but majority of the class was leaving one by one.
